WHAT IS THE ATA?

The Alberta Teachers' Association is an important piece of Alberta’s public education system that represents the teachers of Alberta.

• The ATA represents all of the 46,000 teachers working in Alberta’s public, separate and francophone school systems.
• As the professional organization of teachers, the ATA promotes and advances public education, safeguards standards of professional practice and serves as the advocate for its members.
• The ATA is a democratic organization whose leadership, policies and programming are determined by the direction of teachers.
• The ATA undertakes high-quality research on a variety of educational issues and advocates for the conditions required to best support teaching and learning.
• Teachers are active and engaged citizens in the community who care about ensuring that all students have access to a high-quality public education system
